Da secoli è stato considerato un fiore afrodisiaco ed utilizzato, quindi, per la preparazione di pozioni d’amore o pozioni contro la sterilità. Pertanto un altro significato che nasconde l’orchidea è la sensualità ed il lusso. Nelle credenze cristiane, le macchie presenti sui fiori di orchidea rappresentano il sangue di Cristo, pertanto nelle occasioni della Pasqua e del Natale, spesso gli altari delle Chiese sono ornati con questi fiori.
