La fotografia digitale ha sostituito la pellicola tradizionale per tutti i fotografi non professionisti.
Ecco quindi che le foto si fanno con la macchinetta fotografica, col cellulare, con lo smartphone e cosi via. I vantaggi delle fotocamere digitali sono enormi perchè piccole, integrate spesso nei cellulari perchè molto facili da usare, e con una capacità di memorizzare foto molto ampia, senza bisogno di dover inserire rullini da sviluppare. Un problema però è la creazione di copie cartacee delle foto quindi, se prima si era obbligati a portarle dal fotografo per sviluppare il rullino, adesso si tende, spesso a conservarle sul computer, senza farne la tradizionale copia su carta..
